This year's Eastern Canada Oireachtas took place in Niagara Falls over the weekend of 9 - 11 November. The Oireachtas is our region's primary qualifying event for the 2008 World Championships and 2008 North American Nationals.

It proved to be a very successful event for the Short School with no less than four solo titles being won by our dancers - Meaghan Kilmartin (1st, Girls U-10); Michael Keane (1st, Men 18-20); John Grimes (1st, Men 20 & over); Stephanie Coull (1st, Ladies 20 & over). In addition to these, five more Short dancers qualified for the 2008 World Championships in Belfast - James Houghton (2nd, Boys U-10); Allison Coull (6th, Girls U-13); Simon Kiley (3rd, Boys U-16); Jamie Poirier (2nd, Boys U-16); Natasha Woytiuk (2nd, Girls U-17).

A further seven Short dancers qualified for the 2008 North American Nationals in Nashville - Rebecca Coté (17th, Girls U-9); Orla Mahon (9th, Girls U-12); Lucy Bouchard (15th, Girls U-13); Caitlin Kilmartin (16th, Girls U-14); Leandra Langlois (12th, Girls U-15); Allison Walker (17th, Girls U-17); Elspeth McMurray (7th, Ladies U-18).

Congratulations to all Short School dancers who took part in the Oireachtas. Each one of you gave a performance to be proud of and you were all superb ambassadors for our school. Many thanks to Bernadette and Marie for all their hard work in the preparation of the dancers.

Our teams also did superbly well, claiming two victories in 4-hand 15 & over and 8-hand 15 & over. Eight more of our teams were placed in their respective competitions.
